The dramaturgy team in Bregenz also created new opportunities for the Festspielhaus. On the playbill: operatic rarities that counterbalanced the opulent productions on the Seebühne. The idea was to dust down unjustfully neglected or forgotten operas and stage them in modern productions of high artistic calibres, in the hope that they might be restored to the repertoire. This way of staging with a distinctive aesthetic style was highly regarded internationally and consolidated Bregenz Festival's reputation as an innovative event.
