1999/2000

For the first time in the history of Bregenz Festival, Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera was produced for the Seebühne in 1999. The music that combines antitheses such as dance and death was supported by such a spectacular stage design that it sparked worldwide fascination in 1999. Further highlights were the Operas at the Festspielhaus - in 1999 Bohuslav Martinus's Greek Passion, in 2000 Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cockerel - as well as the mono-opera The Diary of Anne Frank by Grigori Frid in 1999 at the Werkstattbühne, the fringe festival and Astor Piazzolla's Tango Operita Maria de Buenos Aires in 2000.
