The beginnings of the Bregenzer Festspiele in 1946 were strongly shaped by private initiative, which manifested itself in the formation of the so-called “Festspielgemeinde Bregenz” (Bregenz Festival Society) in 1949.
Today, this is the “Verein der Freunde der Bregenzer Festspiele“ (Friends of the Bregenzer Festspiele). In times of tight public budgets, the association’s contributions play a particularly reliable and important role in preserving the diversity of the festival’s program.
The Friends of the Bregenzer Festspiele currently count more than 1.000 members from Austria and abroad. They support the festival financially but also in non-material ways. As ambassadors, they carry the idea of the Bregenzer Festspiele far beyond the borders of Vorarlberg. Members of the Friends of the Bregenzer Festspiele enjoy a number of benefits throughout the whole year: priority booking, invitations to exclusive events, such as the annual program presentation with the festival’s artistic director, or rehearsal visits guarantee a unique experience at the Bregenzer Festspiele.
