About
The kantele is a traditional Finnish and Karelian string instrument belonging to the family of box zithers without fingerboards. According to the Finnish national epic Kalevala, the first kantele was built by the magician and singer Väinämöinen from the jaw of a huge pike. But the kantele is far more than a traditional instrument. In the hands of Ida Elina, the national instrument of Finland turns into a diverse one-person orchestra. Together with the outstanding jazz saxophonist Jukka Perko she takes the audience on a unique musical journey, where archaic, Nordic sounds blend into contemporary, electronic elements creating powerful, complex soundscapes.
