The death of a beloved person, communication bans in prisons or polarizing emotions, expectations and reproaches in political discourse: emotional strain often leaves people speechless.

Where communication fails, becomes difficult or is impeded, that is where the new performative music theatre Connection Impossible by the German director and author Thomas Fiedler and the Czech composer and conductor Ondřej Adámek unfolds. It was designed and composed specially for the Ensemble Modern. In his role as stage and costume designer, Christian Wiehle transforms the Werkstattbühne into a magical hub.

In Connection Impossible Ondřej Adámek experiments with a new way of composing: From the beginning, the musicians of the Ensemble Modern participate in the creative process. Together with the composer they experiment with new musical forms of expression, which adds to the composition’s distinctive style.
