About
At the age of just 18, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy composed his string quartet in A minor, Maurice Ravel was 28 years old when he auditioned for the prestigious Prix de Rome with his string quartet in F major. Both works reflect the confrontation of the young composers with their great role models: Mendelssohn Bartholdy looked to Ludwig van Beethoven, Ravel to his older colleague Claude Debussy. But even in those early masterpieces you can identify their own distinctive sound, with which they confidently presented themselves to the public.
