For the eight time already, young talented singers come to the Bregenzer Festspiele as part of the Opera Studio to practise major roles and be part of a production at the Theater am Kornmarkt. Supported by directors and conductors the aspiring talents take their first steps on an opera stage – a milestone in their professional careers. Next summer, Gioachino Rossini’s first opera La Cambiale di Matrimonio (The Marriage Contract) and Giacomo Puccini’s unique comedy Gianni Schicchi are on the program. But before rehearsals start, the young musicians consolidate their musical knowledge in a masterclass with opera singer Brigitte Fassbaender, who also directs the production.

For years, mezzo soprano Brigitte Fassbaender travelled the world’s largest stages, among them the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, the Wiener Staatsoper and Bayreuth Festival. Brigitte Fassbaender knows the world of opera and its challenges like no one else: When she put an end to her singing career in 1995, she turned to directing instead and was the artistic director of the Tiroler Landestheater from 1999 to 2012.
