Three women from three generations gradually come closer on the seventh floor of an apartment building when, suddenly, strange plagues rain down into their courtyard. Cut off from the outside world, Ems, Anja, and Liselotte uncork one memory after another, sharing fragments of intoxication, love, and family.

While the goddess Dionysa, weary from eternal excess, soothes the chaos, the three women run out of alcohol — and make a radical decision. A play about dependencies and the search for an intoxication beyond patriarchal structures.

The Österreichische Theaterallianz is an association of seven independent theatres from Bregenz, Klagenfurt, Vienna, Innsbruck, Linz, Salzburg, and Graz, that offers a nationwide platform for contemporary theatre in Austria. This year’s biennial playwriting competition took place under the theme “Tanz auf dem Vulkan – Feiern gegen den Abgrund“ (“Dancing on the Volcano – Celebrating on the Brink“). under the influence emerged as the winning play and, following its world premiere at the Bregenzer Festspiele at Theater KOSMOS, will be presented at the other venues of the Theaterallianz.
