7 July 2018 – 7.30 pm, Lake Studio
Duration: approx. 1½ hours
In the coming summer, Brigitte Fassbaender will appear at the festival in the twin roles of vocal teacher and director. Before she begins with the stage rehearsals for her production of The Barber of Seville, she will coach the young singers of the Bregenz Festival Oper Studio. It will be the fourth time the Bregenz public has had the chance to attend a masterclass directed by her in her characteristic demanding but humorous style. The acclaimed "Kammersängerin" has been working with young talents for many years now, passing on valuable experience from her long singing career.
Brigitte Fassbaender was for decades one of the most sought after mezzo-sopranos in the world and sang at the Bavarian State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera and Bayreuth Festival, among other top venues. Few know the world of opera with its multifarious challenges as well as Brigitte Fassbaender does. When she retired from performing in 1995, she took up stage directing and from 1999 to 2012 worked as artistic director of the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck.
