Orchestral Concerts

Vienna Symphony Orchestra | Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra
Vienna Symphony Orchestra

Virtuoso parts for the soloists and stirring choral writing figure large in Giuseppe Verdi's overwhelming Messa da Requiem, which is to be performed by the Prague Philharmonic Choir in what is its tenth consecutive year at Bregenz Festival. Fabio Luisi, former chief conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, returns to Bregenz to conduct the concert. The orchestra's present chief conductor, Philippe Jordan, presents the four symphonies of Johannes Brahms on two consecutive days. The Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra, meanwhile, paints a portrait of the protagonist of the opera at the Festspielhaus: Don Quixote, the knight errant. This is the title of Jacques Ibert's orchestral piece, Le Chevalier errant. The famous hero inspired Richard Strauss to compose one of the most significant works for cello and orchestra. Maurice Ravel wrote a setting of Don Quixote's words addressed to his beloved Dulcinea.
