Young musicians and composers spend a week exploring the challenges of contemporary music and programme a concert that they will perform at Bregenz Festival at the conclusion of the Opus XXI summer academy. The academy – an initiative of several European colleges – has invited Czech composer Miroslav Srnka to be composer in residence for summer 2017. Srnka's opera Make No Noise was staged to great success at last year's Bregenz Festival, its Austrian premiere. His ensemble piece Les Adieux will be played at the summer academy concert. Among other works receiving world premiere performances will be a piece for saxophone, voice and ensemble, in which the saxophonist Asya Fateyeva will perform; Fateyeva won the 2016 ECHO Klassik as Newcomer of the Year.
